Saint Fiacre Statues:Saint Fiacre, the Irish patron Saint of Gardening, celebrates August 30th as his Feast Day. This patron saint was known for his great love in gardening and healing, preferring the quite solitude that the monastery afforded him. His great gift for healing using the herbs and plants that he studied resulted in many people seeking his healing powers. They would flock to the monastery in great numbers asking to see him. Saint Fiacre loved to help the sick and prayed for those in need of healing but he also devoted his life of silence to God and the celebrated status he received was too overwhelming for him. In France, he set up a monastery through the land given to him by the Bishop of Meaux. There, he continued his passion for gardening, gracing his monastery with herbs, flowers and plants that bloomed with all his care. When he chose to ask for more land, the Bishop told him that he could have as much land as he could entrench in one day. And so began the miracle which would draw more crowds to his humble monastery. As Saint Fiacre took his spade along with him in demarking the property he sought, trees and bushed miraculously uprooted. As word of this miracle got to the outside world, people flocked to see this patron saint, asking for his blessings and spiritual guidance as well as his expertise in healing. St. Fiacre continued his healing and spiritual guidance in this monastery until 670 AD when he died. A shrine dedicated to remembering the great patron saint of gardening, now stands in this monastery. Each year, thousands visit this shrine where people have reported miracles in healing.
