Lucius Cornelius Balbus Lucius Cornelis Balbus was born in the city of Gada, Spain and was accepted as a Roman citizen through his loyalty towards the Roman empire. It was Pompey the Great who bestowed upon him the Roman citizenship and history has it that Pompey and Lucius became the best of friends. Lucius Balbus was also a notable stateman in Rome who eventually maintained close working ties with Julius Caesar and later his successor, Augustus Caesar.
