 Life Size Winged Victory of Somothrace This beautiful reproduction of the original statue, depicts the Greek Goddess Nike or "Winged Victory" who originally stood facing the sea at the Greek port of Somothrace. She was thought to welcome the ships back in from their conquests. When the Romans invaded Greece, the Winged Victory statue was thrown into the sea where it was never received for two thousand years. When she was indeed recovered, her head and arms were decapitated and never found and this led to creative drawings and illusions of what she may have originally looked like.
